What’s the point of using Instagram if no one ever sees your content? We put our “stuff” out there in hopes of driving traffic back to our blog, making money from affiliate links, or getting brands to notice us. So, it’s not surprising when we can’t seem to figure out the trick to getting noticed. To help out, here are my favorite tips on how to boost Instagram engagement today.
How to Boost Instagram Engagement

(This post may contain affiliate links. Read my full disclosure here. )
Before I get started, most of these tips I got from a LadyBossBlogger course I took called, “How to Stand Out as An Influencer.” It helped me grow my Instagram, blog, and newsletter…and best yet…get noticed by brands and start making more money!
Here’s a quick overview of the course and an introduction to Instagram hacks I learned from it. It’s a little pricey but by using my code SARAHJEAN at checkout you can get any course for 40% off. Just click this link and use SARAHJEAN at checkout for your discounted price.
OKAY. Let’s get to the tips!
1.) Post every single day at the same time.
This is one of those tips that’s “Do as I say not as I do.” Right now, I have a lot of blogging/writing balls in the air and trying to figure out which ones to keep in motion. While I plan on focusing on Instagram more, I haven’t had the bandwidth up until this point to do this. But I want to because it’s works1
Why? Because posting the same time every day not only tells your readers when they can expect new content from you but also alerts the Instagram algorithms. Yes, you will get a boost in how many people are shown your post just by being consistent.
If you’re really focusing on Instagram this month try it and see how well it does! And then come yell at me so I can start doing it too. :)
2.) Don’t preach but tell a relatable story.
This one has been hard for me because I tend to be private about my personal life but people love stories! I’ve noticed when I’m more real and open I get so much more engagement on my posts than something straight forward and bland.
Brands (and your readers) want to see your personality shine through. They want to be able to see that you won’t just post a picture of their product but create a story that pulls people in and makes them want to check out this cool new product. I can’t tell you how many things I add to my Amazon shopping list because something had a good story about a product.
Give it a shot for at least one of your posts this week and see how much better it does.
3.) Add emotional emojis.
There is something about seeing a smiley face or a laughing crying face that makes us stop and want to read a post. Not only will you get more organic engagement, but Instagram (and Facebook!) love emotional emojis too and will prioritize your posts with them.
4.) Comment back to every comment you receive.
Again, by interacting with people who comment on your posts it’s telling Instagram that your page is a happening place. It’s also just polite and the more you interact with readers the more they will want to return.
6.) Ask a question.
It’s amazing how many times I stop on Facebook or Instagram and actually answer a question because I’m interested! Ask people what their favorite food/vacation place/time of day/etc is. Or their thoughts on….parenting, vacuuming, buying too much at IKEA. People love to answer questions and give their opinions on things so give the people what they want!
Also, “True or false?” is a quick way to gain engagement on a post.
For example: True or False…HomeGoods is better than Target?
(Answer: TRUE!) hehe
Start trying out these tips today, yes, TODAY, and you will see better engagement. Instagram is an art but it’s also a science and these tips are proven to help you do that.

I definitely have to get better at some of these, I think my post tend to be pretty straight forward and not super personal
Thank you! Instagram can be so tricky for me. Sometimes it seems to grow, other times it does not.
Interesting point about the emotional emojis! I never use them in my captions, but will start adding them in.
Personally, I’ve never liked using them but they do work!
I think the commenting part is great advice. I know I love it when someone I follow actually takes the time to respond to my comment. It means a lot.
Same!
Thanks for your tips, will try to post every single day at the same hour from now on.
welcome!
This is such great advice! I am with you – it’s tough for me to get real personal on social media but I really do think that resonates with people.
It really does!
These are all great tips that do work on Instagram! I have to make more time to comment back!!
I fail at the first one. I can’t seem to post every day at the same time. I don’t even post every day. All others you mentioned, I’m good.
These are great tips. I really need to do better at commenting on other’s posts.
Thank you for these tips! I definitely don’t post at the same time every day, but the strategy makes sense!
SO welcome! I don’t follow it exactly myself but I’m building my way there.
