What’s that? You don’t need any 4th of July outfit ideas? You’re just going to wear some red and call it a day? Now we can’t have that. We’re celebrating our country’s independence after all so let’s have a little fun with it. I live in Washington, D.C. so it’s no joke that this town knows how to celebrate the 4th. Last year I even got to watch the fireworks from the balcony of the Capitol building.

But where I really like to celebrate it is with family at my parent’s cottage on Lake Ontario for a week of BBQ’s, s’ mores, guest preachers, bike rides, kayaking and 4th of July parade filled with little kids on training wheels and golf carts. And every year I either wear a plain white shirt or blue tank top because apparently, I have no American spirit. This year I am pulling out all the stops though.
If you’d like to celebrate ‘Merica with me here are a few tips to help us show our patriotism.
4th of July Outfit Ideas to Celebrate America

1. Show Your Red, White, and Blue.
It’s not enough just to cover one color – you need to get them all in there! Let me make this easy for you: find a top that has all three like this patriotic piece from Sweet P and Fi, an affordable online boutique. It doesn’t get any more American than this and I can’t wait to rock it at the lake this year. Go check out that super cute top and get it before its gone.

BONUS: Use the code “PRETTYSIMPLE” at checkout for an extra 20% off!
Oh, and there’s free shipping. That’s what I love about my favorite online boutique. She has such cute pieces and I don’t have to worry about paying extra to ship it to me, especially since she’s based in Nebraska.
Make sure to check out Amazon for very affordable American flag t-shirts as well!
2. What to wear on the bottom
So if you go all-out in a fourth of July top I’d suggest toning it down on the bottom with some jean shorts, or even leggings if you’re wearing a longer top. Could there be a more perfect day to wear American blue jeans than on the 4th?
The exception is if you are having a fun flag-themed skirt or shorts…then I’d reverse this rule and wear something simple on the top like a white tank or tee.
3. Jewelry
There are two ways to wear jewelry on the 4th of July. The easiest and cheapest is to get some red white and blue beads and string those babies around your neck. Easy.
Now, if you want to go more sophisticated tassel earrings are in and a bonus is that they sort of look like fireworks.

4. Shoes
I just bought a pair of gladiator sandals with poms-poms (pictured in the middle below). My husband said they looked like a craft project but I don’t care because I love them. Since they are white with different colored poms-poms I feel like they are the perfect pair of sandals to wear on the fourth. Again, the poms-poms kind of look like fireworks bursting open!

I got mine at American Eagle but they are EVERYWHERE so make sure you check around. Here are a couple of my favorite gladiator sandals from Amazon.
5.Makeup
Is makeup considered part of an outfit? Well, I’m making it part of the outfit. ha. Since the fourth of July is typically hot I’d stick with a very natural look, or even sans makeup if you plan on swimming or boating. I plan on wearing a glowing serum, light powder, mascara and RED lipstick. But that’s because I’m all out of my blue. ;)

I love dressing up for the 4th. I’ve always gone all out. Then I moved to another country and couldn’t celebrate it. Then last year I decided who cares and dressed up. It was so fun. Your outfit looks great and I hope you enjoy next month.

Great top! I have a hard rule about shorts or dresses only for the 4th of July, otherwise, I am sweating like crazy outside in all the festivities! I hope you have a great one, I can’t believe the holiday is so close!
Just a few more weeks!
I love that top! I think I might need it ~ it’s usually pretty hot in Indiana on July 4th, so it would be perfect for our family picnic. PS thanks for the discount code.

Those tassel earrings are adorable! I feel like I would wear those for more than just the Forth of July. I really need to step up my Independence Day fashion this year – I’ve been kind of a slacker the last several years, even though I really do enjoy dressing for holidays.

These are great ideas! I normally don’t go all-out for 4th of July and just wear regular pieces in red, white, and blue, but these are great tips if you go that route!
I love that top! My favorite way to dress up is with my makeup! It is so much fun to play around and wear colors that are not part of my every day look.
