Growing up I’d lose my contacts all the time – usually somewhere on our bathroom floor where it was impossible to find again. I’d then ask one of my parents to come to look with me. Our parents care about the small details in life but when it comes to God we think there’s no way God cares about such trivial things. He does though.
God Cares About The Little Things

First and foremost God cares about us living in eternity with Him. But He also cares about the small details of our lives like finding a lost wallet or getting rid of a headache.
Every now and then I am reminded of this when I pray over something small – like losing a contact. While they may not always be answered (the other day I prayed I could find my yellow wool coat I lost years ago – no luck!) but when they are it’s like God smiling down on me saying, “See? I do care.”
He’s not just “God” and “Lord Almighty” but “Father” and sometimes “Dad” too. We are His children. He loves to be in a relationship with us. God loves to talk to us. He loves to give us good gifts. Oh – and He actually likes you too.
This one has always been a big struggle for me. I’ve never doubted God loves me. He sent His son to die on a cross for my sins that I may have eternal life, after all. But believing God likes me? That’s a little tougher.
I usually think about the mistakes I made this week, or the times I was difficult to deal with, stubborn, rude or selfish…
Other times I struggle with whether God likes me based on my circumstances. I fall into the trap of believing that since God is withholding X, Y or Z from me – job, house, yellow wool jacket, whatever – that surely He doesn’t like me. Love me enough to make sure I get saved, yes. Like me enough to care about my day-to-day life? Probably not.
When we find ourselves believing that lie it’s because we believe another lie – that God is here solely to please us.
Here’s a tip: if you believe that – even subconsciously – you will never find happiness. Life is not about getting God to give us what we want. Sometimes bad things happen – even to good people.

Instead, life is about knowing Him. And Him knowing you.
Do you know that line about getting to the pearly gates and God being like “I never knew you”? Don’t let that be you. Start a relationship today with Him. Go ahead. Just start talking. And forget about not being “worthy.”
There is absolutely nothing we can do to win God’s approval. There is nothing we can do to get Him to like us more. Yet I still try to “gain” His approval. Instead of approaching His throne with boldness as we’re instructed to do, I timidly approach to ask for what I need and desire.
While it’s good to not make God into our personal vending machine, let’s also not approach Him with false humility.
Worse yet, I often approach His throne as “Sarah” – messy, imperfect, wish-washy and a whole string of unflattering characteristics. But remember, we’re not supposed to approach Him as ourselves – if we’ve accepted His wonderful gift and are following His Way we’re supposed to approach Him as if we’ve already been washed white by the blood of Christ – because we have been.
Now think of all the people in your life you genuinely love being with and giving good gifts to. Since we’re made in God’s image how much more does He love to give to us and spend time with us? When we give we sometimes do so to get something in return or with other flawed motives. God gives out of pure love and our best interest.
So next time you lose your wallet or even a contact – turn to God and ask for help. No, you may not find it, but I think the more we all turn to Him with our small needs, the more we’ll realize how much He cares.

Toss those New Year’s Resolutions – God Wants To Do a New Thing In Your Life
Heavenly Father does care and yes he does like us. Doesn’t matter if it is the big stuff or something little. He always cares.
What a very refreshing blog to read today. I rarely see blogger talk about God in our life. Thank you
Thanks Meileilan – some may say I talk too much about Him! haha :)
Nice reminder to always keep an open dialog going with God. Sometimes I will find myself praying/asking for help with something small and feel guilty.
Me too. And sometimes he changes my heart so that small thing doesn’t become as important. Or sometimes He shows me I am important because He cares about it!
I love reading stories like this. It helps to know I am not alone. God took me out of my way over the weekend and reminded me that I needed to make a donation to help a lady in need. I would not have done it if He would not have put a wreck in way, causing me to take a different route. Then He added in a funeral progression to really make His sign known! Funny how things like that happen.
Erin – thanks for sharing that beautiful story! Wow..God can use anything to get our attention.
His eye is definitely on the sparrow. It’s such a great reminder that God cares about even the little things. Thanks for this post!
Love this, Sarah! My grandma always used to remind me that there is no problem too big or too small for God to handle. He loves us all oh so much!
Cara, you had a wise grandma :)
I love this! Thanks for sharing this great reminder that God cares about the little things in our life.
Yes!! I love that you pointed this out! Sometimes we think that God only cares about the big things, because there are SOOOO many other things he has to take care of. But in doing that, we forget that he created each one of us with a plan and purpose. If he has done that than of course he cares about every single thing that happens to us!! Thanks for this encouragement today!
I love that God cares about the small things. He wants us to bring every single thing to Him.
Thank you so much for this insightful post! This is something I love to teach to my 13, 10, and 6 year old kids! He is watching over us — the details do matter! He does answer prayers and I am so grateful for this knowledge. Thank you so much for this reminder and helping me be grateful of this blessing!

Thank YOU Debbie! :)
What a unique and insightful post- thank you for sharing and reminding me of this today!
Such a good read! It’s comforting to know that though we may seem just like a speck of sand in the ocean, God cares about our smallest worries. We serve a mighty God! :)
Diana – amen, we do!
Another terrific post! My mother always says the same thing your post communicates. It always works! I’m so glad we serve a God who cares about the big things and the little things – like contacts. :)
He did invite us to make our request known – thankfully He didn’t qualify that statement to mean only the big stuff. :)
Teri – yes! If He cares what the birds eat today, I assume He cares about the small things in my life too. :)
I was at a church small group last night and we were actually discussing this. There were a few of us who said we don’t always pray about the little stuff. What does it matter, why would He care about the little things. But we were reminded that He does. I think that’s something that I needed to hear last night… and today again too! :)
That is so cool that your group was talking about it too – and came to the same conclusion. :)
Such a great post. God cares about EVERYTHING in our lives. Even the smallest of things. Great reminder
