Do you ever get acne? Wrinkles? Rosacea? Dark circles? Dull skin? Previously I wrote about all the health benefits of turmeric. Now it’s time to talk about the benefits of a turmeric mask for your skin.
First things first, a little background. If you’ve had Indian food before, you’ve had turmeric. It’s the spice that makes the food so popular, as well as lends its orange/yellow color to curries.
Because of all that goodness, turmeric is also great for your skin too. It is antibacterial, anti-aging, reduces facial hair, improves skin elasticity, lightens dark spots, controls oil and sends acne packing. Pretty much turmeric is the silver bullet for all our skin care needs. I can’t speak for everyone, but I do this mask once a week and my skin looks so much better the next day. I see clearer skin, smaller pores, and an all-around refreshed look. (I also like to make this turmeric drink about once a month. It tastes so good and you can start benefiting from it right away.)

If you’d like to learn more about its wonderful properties, a quick Google search will help you out. But for the rest of us…let’s get to the mask.
Turmeric can be purchased easily at your local grocery store. I would recommend the organic brand. You might also want to consider starting with this DIY Lush Salt Scrub first.
Turmeric Mask
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon milk (If you have acne prone skin you can use apple cider vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
HOW TO MAKE TURMERIC MASK:
1.) Simply mix together and “paint” on your skin using a soft facial brush. If the honey is thick, you can always put into the microwave for a few seconds before mixing and painting on your skin. Be careful though – turmeric will stain clothes, counters, etc…although thankfully, not your skin.
2.) Leave on for 20 minutes or until completely dry.
3.) Rinse thoroughly!
“Thoroughly” is a bit of an understatement. First, rinse as many times as you can with just water, and perhaps then a cloth. You will still be orange even after several times but do not worry. Keep rinsing a few times and then bring out the soap.
Eventually you will no longer be orange – I promise!
4.) Follow up with a light moisturizer, one try one of my creations: DIY Face lotion for sensitive skin.
Try it and come back and let me know how it worked for you.

You are so full of great ideas and recommendations, I am drinking my lemon and ginger tea as I type this. Turmeric sounds like a wonder food, and not only for the inside, I am so going to try this. My skin could use a perking up and my daughter, who is 16, has acne issues. Can you use this on any area of the skin? I’m assuming so. My daughter works in a restaurant and although she showers every night when she gets home she is still having issues. We’re definitely going to try this! Thanks.
Yes, you can use it anywhere on the face. For acne I’d also recommend: Bragg’s apple cider vinegar (diluted if she has sensitive skin), Aloe vera juice (it does wonders!!) or witch hazel (just make sure it is a pure brand.) Hope it works!
I’ve heard that Tumeric is AMAZING and has so many benefits for your skin. I need to try this out! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Like I mentioned, don’t be worried if it takes a few scrubs so your skin is not yellow. I promise it comes off! 🙂
Wow this is so easy to make and has so many benefits! I need to try this.
If I can get all these benefits from one spice, I am definitely going to try it! I have heard great things about Tumeric, but I have not experienced it myself. Will be picking some up today! Thank you for sharing!!
I have read so many ideas to use turmeric lately. This one I am actually going to try!
Come back and share how you like it!
This mask sounds AWESOME. Never even heard of Tumeric before this, so it’s now on my must-try list!

I love spreading new DIY beauty tips!
Thanks for sharing. I never heard of using this in a mask.
I love it Sarah. Turmeric has so many healing properties but I never even thought about using it on my skin. My daughter is 16 and she swims A LOT. The chlorine is making her skin so dry and with the normal hormones thing a 16 year old has to go through she is really taking strain. Next time we do a home facial we are so going to try this. Thank you so much <3
Very welcome. Let me know how it works!
I’ve recently started taking a Turmeric supplement and but Turmeric in my smoothies as well. I even tried it on my foot for inflammation. I think all I managed there was to stain my sock. (-;
I love natural beauty products so I think that I will have to give this a try. Thank!
I make a hot turmeric drink which I love! I keep meaning to try it in a smoothie as well.
I totally need to give this a try! Love tumeric. I have a feeling this might actually work great!
I’ve used it probably a dozen times now – it works great!
I’m SO trying this. I’ve heard a lot of good things about tumeric so if you say this works, I’m going to give it a go!

Happy TIUT!
woohoo thanks WebMDiva!
What a fun beauty routine. I haven’t done a mask in forever!
I’ll give it a try!
Good Afternoon Sarah, As it happens, my daughter used to live in India and brought me a turmeric powder face mask when she came home this year. You see many women in India walking around with turmeric on their faces to guard against the sun. I have to be honest, I am hesitant using the turmeric as a face pack, because I use turmeric in my cooking and I know, it stains terribly. I would hate to walk around with a yellow face…. I know I’ll try a little on my hand first, and see how that goes.
Best Wishes to you.
Daphne
Daphne,
I know it stains clothes and counters but I’ve never had trouble with it staining my face – thankfully! 🙂 Now, I do have to wash it several times so I might recommend not doing it right before a big night out, but otherwise should be good.
Great share I have tried Tumeric mask before I love finding new ones. Thanks for sharing over at Turn It Up Tuesday 🙂
Genius! Love this mask. So simple to make and it doesnt take much time at all (although the washing part may. I think it’s totally worth it.) Thanks so much for sharing this on #shinebloghop this week! Happy to have you join us 🙂
Thank you for hosting each week!
I have never heard of a Tumeric mask. I love that this is so easy with great benefits. Just so happens I have all of these ingredients. Thank you!
guess what I am doing tonight!
Yay! Let me know how it goes.
Awesome idea! I’ll have to try it out some evening!
Thanks for the recipe. I am going to try this.
It is amazing that you can do so much with more natural products. I was wondering, and I guess this is weird, how does it smell? Is the texture really gritty?
It smells spicy, like curry. And no too gritty depending on how much liquid you put in. Feels like watery paint? Haha
I use a lot of Tumeric in cooking and it does wash out of the clothes after a few washes. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad someone confirms that it doesn’t stain forever! haha Good luck on the contest.
I had no idea Turneric has so much goodness. I actually haven’t heard much at all about it until this post. Turmerick sounds like exactly what what my skin needs and I will be doing this mask asap. Thanks so much for sharing this useful information.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy it.
I love tumeric in food so I will have to try this! If nothing else I will get to smell like curry for a while 🙂
Not bad, right? 😉
I’ve heard of drinking tumeric tea or golden milk but I’ve never heard of putting it on my face! I need to purchase honey first and then I’m trying this!
Honey in itself is amazing for skin.
I just recently bought Tumeric for the first time, so I need to try this mask! Thank you!
Perfect timing!
GREAT recommendation! Turmeric is an absolute staple in our spice cabinet, and I try to cook with it every day. My husband also takes it in capsule form, and it has been an absolute miracle for his chronic back pain. Super excited to see what this can do for my skin! Thanks for sharing <3
I think I need to start taking in capsule form too! I make a delicious drink out of it though.
I’ve never used turmeric on my skin before but it does like really beneficial.
Makes your skin glow the next day. No joke.
I love this. I’m always looking for more natural skincare options. I will definitely have to try this out!
Please do! You may want to start with milk the first time though.
I happen to have a ton of turmeric and I keep hearing about how amazing it is for you. Gotta try this!
