There are two items I love at Lush: their bath bombs and their Ocean Salt scrub. I already pretty much mastered the DIY bath bombs I thought I’d tackle the second and make my own DIY Lush Salt Scrub. It not only smells amazing – it tastes amazing: salty, coconuty, limey.
If I’m being honest, I tried googling DIY Lush Ocean Salt to copy, and none of the recipes out there seemed to match the real scrub as closely as I would have liked. (Side note – my computer accepts the word “googling”) I looked at the Lush website instead and bought almost every ingredient I could possibly find including the Fucus Vesiculosus. No, I didn’t swear, it’s just a type of seaweed. Seaweed that clears acne and acts as a detoxifier for our skin!

DIY Lush Salt Scrub
- 1 TBS Avocado butter
- 1/2 TBS lime infused vodka
- 1 TBS Coconut oil
- 4 Capsules Seaweed absolute
- 1/2 cup course Sea Salt
- 1 1/2 cups Fine Sea Salt
- Lime and Grapefruit zest
- 1 teaspoon Glycerine
- 1 teaspoon Grapefruit juice
- Small containers or pint sized mason jars
Step 1: Round up the supplies! (Amazon is your friend)
Step 2: Mix all liquids together FIRST. (Avocado butter, vodka, coconut oil, glycerine, grapefruit juice)
Step 3: Add the salt. This will make mixing easier.
Step 4: Sprinkle in the seaweed
5: Add the grapefruit and lime zest!
BONUS: Add more grapefruit juice and use as a cellulite-remover scrub!
Ooh, I need to try this. I love Lush products but there are no stores conveniently located near me and I never seem to make it there.

I’ve been wanting to try making my own cleansers and beauty products, I’ll have to try this!
Making my own products is always a plus. What does the vodka do to this scrub?
It tightens pores, clears acne, brightens skin…all good stuff!
I haven’t made my own scrubs yet but I’m def trying this soon! I love LUSH but it’s soooo expensive!
I know…their stuff can really add up. That’s why I like to read their ingredients and try to duplicate them!
So resourceful of you!! I’m impressed. 🙂 And coconuty totally should be a word!
Agreed. So many things are coconuty. 🙂
Great recipe. Will be pinning. Would love it if you linked up at Let’s Get Real Link up.

Ooh please come back and tell me how you like it!
Just what the doctor ordered; avocado butter, lime vodka and sea salt. Adding the grapefruit for the little skin wobbles also sounds like a plan. Thank you, definitely going to try it.
Awesome!

Vodka? Wouldn’t have thought of that one 🙂 Sounds great though and I prefer to make everything myself also.
What a fun DIY craft!
Oooh this sounds divine! I’ve been making more and more of my own beauty products with essential oils, I love being a little alchemist! Will have to try this recipe.
This sounds amazing!! This would make great gifts at Christmas too!
Nice! I must try this sometime 😀
Can’t wait to try this! I just love homemade bath and beauty products!
This sounds like it smells so good!!! <3
oh wow I am loving this! I need to try it out 🙂
My daughter is 16 and works in a restaurant, recently she started getting acne and I believe it is from the oils in the air there. This would help her so much to get rid of this problem. And I think this would be a fun activity to do together! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Perhaps I should make it on the sly, it would make a great Christmas present too!
And I would love to make my pores smaller, looks like I need to make a double batch!
Nikki, I invited a few girl friends over to make it and we had so much fun. I guess all skin is different but it definitely helps with my sensitive, acne-prone skin.
this sounds like such a lovely scrub!
This looks gorgeous and sounds delicious!! Lovely find. Sue @ The World of Suzy Homemaker via #WeekendBlogShare x
Love a good DIY beauty treat, thanks for sharing at Merry Monday!
This sounds amazing! I bet it smells amazing as well with the grapefruit in it. Grapefruit is a great pick me up for in the mornings. Looks like it is full of good stuff. I love making my own beauty products. This would make great gifts for the women in the family.
Hi Linda – yah it has awesome stuff in it! And homemade beauty always makes for a great gift. 🙂
What a fab list of ingredients, it really does sound like something you could eat! Will definitely be trying this recipe out 🙂
Yah I think you could! It also tastes good when you scrub your face with it. 🙂
Sounds yummy! 🙂 Don’t worry, I haven’t eaten any body scrubs yet! Thank you for sharing with us each week on the Art of Home-Making Mondays at Strangers & Pilgrims on Earth!
Thanks, Jes! And is does look pretty yummy… 🙂
Is there anything I can substitute the Vodka for, since I am under 21?
Witch hazel!
Salt scrubs feel so amazing
Finally a realistic version of the Lush Ocean Salt scrub! So excited. Where did you get the seaweed absolute from?
Amazon!
I never would have thought (in a bazillion years) that those items together would make up a LUSH-inspired salt scrub, but that’s kind of cool! Thank you for sharing!
Haha I know. Quite unusual!
This scrub sounds amazing! I use the Ocean Salt scrub religiously but it’s so expensive.. I do have a few questions though: How much does this recipe make? How long does it last in the refrigerator? And is it actually cost effective- am I going to spend more making this DIY than buying the scrub itself (for the same amount of scrub)?
Thank you for posting this, hopefully I can try it out soon!!!
This makes about two cups. I’m not sure the full shelf life in the fridge because I used it up but I would guess at least a couple of months! As for cost, yes, I think this is less expensive IF you have a lot of the ingredients on hand. If not, buying it may be a bit more cost effective.
Want to make it vegan? Try substituting the lanolin which is found in Lush s Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub with cupuacu butter .
Oh that’s brilliant – thank you!
