When it comes to cleaning our homes, the simpler the better. Here are my favorite non-toxic cleaning products that are as effective as they are safe.
But first, why is non-toxic even important?
I think a lot of people get frustrated with the term and throw up their hands and say, “It’s all too confusing and it seems everything can cause cancer so I give up!”
While I understand the sentiment, I encourage you to not throw out the dishes with the dirty dish water.
While we certainly cannot avoid everything “toxic” in our current world -it would be impossible or we would go mad trying–I do believe any little bit we can do can help contribute to our overall health.
As someone who has been in the tidying and cleaning field for a while now, I’ve tried hundreds of cleaning products. For a time, I even tried DIYing my own to avoid potential harmful ingredients but as it turns out, they were not that effective and often ended up costing me more. haha
So now I leave it up to the experts.
Thankfully, companies have come a long way in creating truly toxic-free and effective cleaning products. These are the products you will find in my own home if you come visit and then I spend my own money on.
Hereare my favorite non-toxic cleaning products that I know you will love too.
And since a few of my picks are on the pricier side I will provide a few less expensive options too.

Ready? Great. Let’s start in the kitchen.
Multipurpose Cloth
Everyone needs a multipurpose cleaning cloth in their cleaning arsenal. It’s what I use first to wipe down the counters when they’re full of crumbs, spills, or caked-on messes before using a cleaning or disinfectant.
One option is a Swedish dishcloth. If you haven’t heard of them yet it’s time.
Basically, they are super absorbent paper towels that you can use over and over And when they get dirty you just throw them in the top shelf of your dishwasher and they come out nice and clean. This is the perfect option for my eco-friendly advocates because when they start to break down you can compost them. No waste!
My favorite places to grab Swedish dishcloths are Bloom Towels (for cloths that are as pretty as they are practical) or even Amazon for a money-saving bundle
Another option is to use a microfiber cloth. There are many microfiber cloths out there but I happen to like the ones made by E-Cloth. E-Cloth. Microfiber is top-notch because it traps dirt and grime using only water and can be washed in the washing machine again and again.
Multipurpose Spray Cleaner
After my counters are wiped clean I always like to go back in with a multipurpose spray cleaner to disinfect my counters.
Now, I am going to start with a higher-end product here but don’t worry, I promise to offer other options too. My top pick for a multipurpose cleaner is Force of Nature because HOLY COW, where do I begin?
It’s a special cleaner that you make in a little machine that converts salt, water, and vinegar into a multipurpose cleaner. I love it because I can use it on EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. Not only do I clean my kitchen counters with it, but it’s also a disinfectant, so I can spray it directly on everything from my weights to stuffed animals to electronics to toys to anything else that is hard to clean. It can also be used to clean fruits and vegetables.
For my germaphobes, it kills 99.9 percent of germs. It also makes my counters shine like nothing else and miraculously cuts through grease on my vent hood. I am a customer for life.
However, Force of Nature is an investment so here are a few other great options too. All of them are safe around kids and pets, effective, and multipurpose.
Floor Cleaner
There is something so satisfying about cleaning my floors. I can’t quite explain it but it might have something to do with the fact that I have three kids and two cats and my floors get disgusting real quick.
While I do own a robot mop, I don’t find myself using it that often because it doesn’t compare to a little muscle. Instead, I switch back and forth between my favorite steam mop to disinfect and a regular mop and bucket with my favorite floor cleaner to make my floors clean and get in all the nooks and crannies.
I use the O’Cedar mop and bucket system and the Hygea Naturals Floor and Surface Cleaner.
This floor cleaner makes my floors shine and has a lovely light scent too. This is certainly an added bonus, but it makes my home smell like a luxury hotel too.
Laundry Detergent
Let’s chat laundry. I don’t love it, does anyone? But there are a few ways to make it more tolerable and that includes a non-toxic laundry cleaner that gets your clothes clean and smells heavenly on top of it all. Yes, I am talking about Truly Free laundry. It’s also safe to use on baby clothes, safe for sensitive and dry skin, comes in a refillable jug to reduce waste, and helps your washer clean more efficiently. You have no idea how excited I am to finally find a truly non-toxic laundry detergent that works. And yes, I also tried DIYing my own. It was useless. haha.
Right now they have a deal to get 100 free loads of laundry when you purchase a bundle and I fully stand by the other products in their laundry line as well.
Shower Cleaner
Without fail, whenever anyone asks me for cleaning tips it’s always the shower. I guess that’s because grout and soap scum can be hard to figure out how to clean. I always clean my shower while taking the shower because I’m already getting wet and it only adds a few minutes to my actual shower and I can’t recommend that enough. As for products, first I pour baking soda and then vinegar down the drain to remove any of that musty smell and let it bubble over. The hot water from the shower then washes all that yucky smell down the drain. Then I simply use something called Scrub Daddy’s Power Paste. It comes with a Scrub Mommy sponge and gets the job done. You can find it on places like Amazon but it’s always the cheapest at Target.
After I rinse, if I’m feeling very fancy, I use a squeegee on our glass downs to get that streak-free look.
