Welcome back to my Home Organization Challenge. Last month we focused on our closets! Hopefully, that built your confidence so that you can declutter and organize and not lose your mind. This month we’ll be focusing on how to find your organization style to make organizing easier going forward!
How to Find Your Organization Style

I’ve always thought I was a neat person, and I am. I’m a minimalist so I don’t like clutter and I try to limit my possessions. However, my husband likes to joke that I’m not. He says that our junk drawer and pantry are a mess. And guess what? We’re both right.
My junk drawer and pantry are a mess. But I still AM a very neat person. That’s because I finally learned about my organizational style from Clutterbug and realized I’m a ladybug.
According to Cass from Clutterbug, “Ladybugs are generally stressed out by surface clutter and like to keep their living space clean and clutter-free. Usually, a Ladybug takes a lot of pride in having a clean and well-decorated home. The hidden areas of a Ladybug’s home are a different story though!
If you think of a real ladybug, they are pretty and shiny on the outside, but when they open their wings….well, it’s a horror show under there!”
Every time I read that I laugh out loud. But it also explains a lot! My house looks very clean but please don’t open any drawers. Meanwhile, my husband is a cricket. They like things MICRO organized and if they don’t have the time to keep up with it they just let things go. That’s why my husband thinks he’s very organized and I often think he’s messy. We’re both organized people we just have different styles.
Now it’s your turn.
Take this quiz to find out your organization style.
I’ll briefly describe the four types below in case you want a quick overview first. All the “bugs” are linked below so you can read more about how to organize that fits YOUR personality.
LADYBUG
Love visual simplicity and organization simplicity. You prefer to have all your items hidden out-of-sight. You also need fast and easy solutions, like bins and baskets without lids.
BUTTERFLY
Love visual abundance and organizational simplicity. You are a really visual person and for you, it’s out-of-sight, out-of-mind. You need visual, but fast and easy systems, like clear or wire bins and baskets and lots of hooks.
BEE
Love visual abundance and organizational abundance. You prefer to see your everyday used items instead of hiding them away. You are also a bit of a perfectionist and tend to pile items until you can put them away properly.
CRICKET
Love visual simplicity and organizational abundance. You prefer your everyday items out of sight, but you are a bit of a perfectionist and a very detail-oriented person.
Ever since learning I’m a ladybug I realized I like quick clean-up solutions like baskets that I can throw toys in and stick on a shelf. I don’t want see-through ones because inside the basket will be a mess but as long as it’s away and I can’t see it – I’m happy as a clam!
Since my husband is a cricket though, I’m going to try to micro-organize areas of the house we both use such as the kitchen drawers. Don’t forget to grab Cass’s book, Cluttered Mess to Organized Success to further hone in on your style and how to put your home in order.

I am a Butterfly……. I really agree with the results, I am a really non-organized person.
I’m a ladybug! Slowly working on getting things organized – but it’s not easy!!
Yay me too!
I’m also a ladybug. I love strong, minimal designs with storage out of sight.
I’m totally a bee ! I’ve been working on this for years. I knew nothing of being organized until I became a mom, then my memory went downhill and I learned the importance of it.
I love the way you break these up! Growing up, I assumed I had to organize like my mom did but now I know I just have a very different style/method of organization!
I knew it…I’m a ladybug, too! I’d have to say my husband is cross between a cricket and a butterfly. Drives me mad. And, as I type this, I’m wondering if I can get the whole family to finally work on our closets!
I’m a butterfly! I love the comment about how much they love baskets and hooks- I am constantly on the lookout for baskets when I go to the thrift store haha! I love this way of describing different organizational styles 🙂
It sounds like I’m a bit of a ladybug and cricket combo! This was so much fun to read through. I’ve never really considered my exact organizational style, so thanks for sharing this!
