Have you found a face wash you love and that makes your skin look great? If not, it might be time to make your own. I love tinkering around with ingredients to come up with different DIY recipes, but especially face washes. While I prefer to buy many of my skin products, face washes are ones I go through so quickly and are the easiest to make. Recently, I gave this DIY Charcoal Face Wash a try and it might become my new favorite.

DIY Charcoal Face Wash For All Skin Types
What You Will Need:
- 1/2 Cup Castile Soap (I used rose from Dr. Bronner’s)
- 5 Activated Charcoal Capsules
- Rose Essential Oil 3o drops (You could also use tea tree if you have acne-prone skin or your favorite skin-friendly essential oil)
- An Empty Container*
*I actually used an old breast milk soap bottle so feel free to use what you have on hand! If you don’t have anything, these empty bottles work well.
How To Make DIY Charcoal Face Wash
1.) Simply stir or shake all the ingredients together and wash your face as normal.
But Sarah, how will these ingredients help my skin?
I’m glad you asked! Charcoal acts like a magnet and pulling dirt and other gunk from our skin. Seriously, just try this DIY Charcoal Face Mask and see how it gets into the crevices of each pore (warning: it will get DEEP!)
I personally chose the rose castile soap and essential oil because it helps fights acne, soothes irritated skin, stimulates collagen (thanks to Vitamin C!), and smells lovely.
If you have very acne-prone skin you might want to try tea tree essential oil instead.
AND DON’T FORGET!
Follow up with a lovely moisturizer – like this DIY Whipped Ghee moisturizer! – to keep your face looking fresh. 😉

I didn’t know they had a charcoal face wash! I need to try this.
You make it yourself! easy peasy
I’ve used a charcoal toothpaste and loved it, but I’ve never thought of using it on my skin. I make a lot of my own skin care products, too. I’ll have to start experimenting with charcoal now!
yess it is great for your skin! I might caution you away from charcoal for your teeth though. I used to use it too and loved it but recently heard it’s pretty abrasive. ah!
Such a great quick DIY, I’ll probably have to use tea tree oil as I have oily skin
great add-on!
This sounds like an amazing cleanser, need to try it
I always love making DIY face mask but never tried doing a face wash. You made it sound easy to do tho!
This is so cool! I love that you make your own charcoal face wash! I never would have thought to do that! Plus, I love rose-scented soap!
I really don’t like the smell of Rose. However, I used a product with Rose in it a while back and it seemed to help my face. I’m looking forward to making this because it is so much more natural than what I tried from the store.
Tamara, if you just use the Bronner’s and not the essential oil, then it it not too strong of a scenet!
i like buying charcoal masks already made, bu never tried making it myself
I dont have a charcoal capsules..but a powder..how much do I add it for a face wash receipe ?
Start with a teaspoon or two and see how you like it. There’s no wrong amount. You can play with it a bit!
